What is success? Becoming a millionaire? Being famous or realizing your dreams? One day Jesus asked his disciples a penetrating question: "And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose
your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?" If there is any possibility at all of life after death, we would be fools not to prepare for eternity. Shortly before his own death, Jesus prayed to his Father and said, "And this is the way to have eternal life--to know you, the only true God, and Jesus the messiah, whom you sent."

Life! A Series of Boot Camps?![]() We had just finished High School, and two good friends joined the marines. Off they went to Boot Camp. I still remember the impression I had when I saw Martin right after he finished basic training. He looked sharp in his crisp colorful uniform, but there was something more. He had changed. He looked confident, ready to take on tough challenges. He was tanned and muscular. Everyone noticed it. Thirteen weeks of Marine Boot Camp had made him into a man.
The term “Boot Camp” came into popular usage around the time of the 2nd World War. A dictionary definition for it is “a camp where people who have recently joined the U.S. Army, Navy, or Marine Corps receive their basic training.” Now Boot Camp has taken on an additional wider meaning, “a short but very difficult training program: a program or situation that helps people become much better at doing something in a short period of time.” If you google “Boot Camp”, you will find one for virtually anything, Baby Boot Camp, Boot Camps for kids, for dads, for mothers, for spouses, for teachers, musicians, fitness, weight loss, for writers, and the list seems to have no end. Our search for any particular boot camp shows our desire for success in that area. A Twin Cities pastor is currently preaching a series of messages entitled “Pushing the Limits”. These sermons are about excelling in important areas of life, including our relationships with God, spouse, family and friends. He believes the most important relationship we have after God is with our spouse and I heartily concur. Success in our chosen career, finances, business endeavors and sharing our faith is also of utmost importance. Sadly many of us have never even sought to know how to excel in any of these areas. In her book, First Steps to Wealth”, Dani Johnson shares this shocking statistic on finances:"98 percent of the population will end up dead or dead broke by age sixty-five. Only 2 percent of the population will succeed financially.” Dani grew up in a welfare family with parents plagued by drugs and alcohol. She and her sister were the victims of sexual abuse. How she became a a passionate believer in God, loving wife, mother, and then additionally went on to be successful in business, is a wonderfully inspiring story. (Continued above right) |
![]() The first step out of failure, of course, is to admit where we are failing. The second step is to look for help.
Unfortunately, many who are failing in marriage are referred to counselors who themselves have gone through one or more divorces. If they really want help, they should seek out a counselor who is still madly in love after 40 or 50 years of marriage and ask to be put through marital boot camp until he or she learns how to be a good spouse. The same goes for finances, career and everything else. Learn from those who are successful in the things you find challenging. A good place to start learning about finances and home business endeavors would be to with Dani Johnson’s Free 30 Day Home Business Bootcamp. She shares her story of how she went from being broke, alone and deep in debt to being a happily-married wife, mother and successful business woman. Not only that, she will give you a detailed description of the steps needed to get there. To begin your own 30 Day Boot Camp journey, CLICK HERE! |
