Strong opinions?

Someone asked a man why he climbed mountains. His answer was simple, "Because the mountains are there!" So why am I blogging? I'm blogging because I can. I have strong opinions about a lot of things. I have strong opinions about God, about religion, about health, about nutrition, about education, about free enterprise, about government, about family, and the list goes on. Some of my opinions are really more than opinions, they are deeply held convictions and beliefs.

Have I always lived out my convictions? I wish that I could answer 'yes' to that question, but it pains me to say there have been times that I was a coward and didn't speak up. More than once I have absolutely violated my convictions, and I might add that I have suffered for that.

From Germany to San Diego to Minneapolis!

So why would a man my age begin to blog? For a long time I have wanted to share things I believe and things I have discovered with a wider audience. I thought of the internet, but I just didn't know how to get started. Two summer's ago I accepted an offer to move from San Diego to Minneapolis to teach English as a Second Language and Spanish Literacy in an Elementary and Middle School. We needed the money, I love languages and we have 2 kids who are teachers in the Twin Cities, so my wife and I were agreed we should do it.

So what finally pushed Me Into a Blogging?

I was born into the family of a Baptist preacher a long time ago. By the time I was 13, he had pastored 4 churches in Pennsylvania: Hilltown, Phillipsburg, Danville and Bristol.

When I was 13, Dad was invited to help establish churches with the Los Angeles Baptist City Mission Society. What a change that was!  We were temporarily housed in a downtown LA apartment owned by the Society.

A gang member picked a fight with me at Hollenbeck Junior High the first day of school. Two months later we moved to Inglewood, a great place to live back then, and life became bearable again. However, the experience at Hollenbeck left me bitter and angry.

The summer before High School an encounter with the Lord Jesus at a camp in the mountains transformed me and four other students and I revived an on-campus Christian Fellowship. By the time we graduated, the group had grown to more than 350.

That experience changed the future course of my life. At BJU I joined a musical team with my trumpet and spent two summers on mission trips to Mexico and Guatemala. Read more on the About Page!
